Easy Intermittent Fasting With Yerba Mate

Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent fasting is becoming increasingly popular. Many folks are jumping on the bandwagon because they are interested in the weight loss benefits, but there’s more to it, including evidence that it can help you live longer.

Studies in mice show that intermittent fasting can extend lifespan as effectively as calorie restriction. Some research also suggests that it can help protect against diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s.

There’s something to be said for not having to eat 3-4 meals per day so intermittent fasting is a life hack that also makes your life simpler while potentially improving your health.

It involves alternating cycles of fasting and eating and it’s really not as complicated as it may sound. The easiest way I’ve found to do intermittent fasting is to stop eating around 7 or 8 and don’t eat until lunch time the following day. This will give your body around 16 hours of fasting and an 8hour window of eating.

No food is allowed while fasting, but coffee and herbal teas are acceptable which is where yerba mate comes in. Yerba mate, unlike coffee is alkaline and easy on the stomach so most people can drink it on an empty stomach with no problem.

The other great thing about mate in regards to fasting is that it delays gastric emptying, so you won’t feel hunger for an hour or two after drinking it. And, since mate contains nearly every nutrient necessary to sustain life, you’ll be getting lots of nutrition without the calories.

Hold on, there’s more! Due to the stimulants theobromine, theophylline and caffeine in mate, you will receive all of the energizing benefits of coffee without the jitters making it easier to get through your morning with energy and focus until lunch time.

You can also Bulletproof your cup of mate. Start by putting a hot cup of mate in the blender and add 2 Tbsp. of grass fed butter or ghee, 1 Tbsp. Brain Octane Oil by Bulletproof and blend for a few seconds. Blending this mixture in the blender is very important.
