Can Yerba Mate Help Protect From Colon Cancer?

Updated: Apr 14, 2021

Could it be that protecting yourself from colon cancer could be as easy as drinking a cup of yerba mate every day?

In a study from the University of Illinois, scientists showed that human colon cancer cells die as a result of apoptosis when exposed to bioactive compounds in just one cup of yerba mate. In simple terms, cancer cells self-destruct because their DNA has been damaged.

“The caffeine derivatives in mate tea not only induced death in human colon cancer cells, they also reduced important markers of inflammation,” said Elvira de Mejia, a U of I associate professor of food chemistry and food toxicology.

Since colon cancer is the third most common cancer among both men and women, this is awesome news! It’s also difficult to diagnose early because there are no real symptoms until the advanced stages so, prevention is key.

Yerba mate is the gift that keeps on giving because it has been proven to decrease inflammation as well. Inflammation is epidemic in this country and it’s causing things like diabetes, arthritis obesity, cancer and heart disease which are all preventable. It is a secret killer and is associated with colon cancer.

These are preventable diseases folks and research is showing that yerba mate can be a powerful and effective tool in that prevention.

Mate drinkers will tell you that it’s hard to explain how they feel because it’s not just one thing. There is an overall feeling of health, energy and wellbeing when you drink it. You know that it’s doing something really good. I mean you can feel it, so, it’s no surprise that this super-drink is making the headlines in cancer prevention.

It has been my wellness ritual for over 10 years and kept me cancer free. It’s very inexpensive insurance that makes you look and feel great!
